‘Fasting For The Cure of Disease’ was originally published as a distributable work to assist those individuals who were seeking out new ways to heal themselves of whatever malady (perceived or otherwise) they were afflicted with. What it became in the end, sadly, was something quite the opposite in nature. The work garnered both national and international attention, and led to the starvation - and murder - of individuals in the care of Dr. Hazzard at her Wilderness Heights facility in Olalla, Washington. Following the scandal that ensued, Dr. Hazzard continued to be a staunch proponent of her beliefs. In fact she was so convinced of their merits that she ultimately perished in 1938 while conducting a fasting regimen upon herself. This book is a faithful reproduction of the text of Dr. Hazzard’s original work.

This volume is a text, written for other doctors, by Linda Burfield Hazzard, a quack doctor, scam artist, and murderer. The book explains in medical terms her theory that ALL disease states are caused by waste products caused by eating, even in very thin people. Her cure was fasting to the point of starvation, hours long enemas, and massages and manipulation. The story of the patients she killed and robbed of their possessions, her trial, and eventual death by her own fasting method can be read about in Gregg Olsen's book, "Starvation Heights: A True Story of Murder and Malice in the Woods of the Pacific Northwest" available here at Amazon. Hazzard's text is a dry read, written in the medical terminology circa 1900, and repeating again and again the same irrational theory of food causing disease and "fasting" curing it, almost as if she is trying to prove it to herself. Very informative
Interesting opening by Gregg Olsen, author of "Starvation Heights." I am glad that I took the time to read "Fasting for the Cure of Disease" before I tackled "Starvation Heights." Dr. Hazzard's information proovides a window to her thoughts on the cause of disease, what is fasting, and how it affects disease. Reading Dr. Hazzard's book gives the reader a look at Dr. Hazzard's thoughts and provides a foundation for what happens at Starvation Heights.
People who left negative comments obviously didn't read the description above the title "Companion to Greg Olsen's Crime Classic Starvation Heights" Wow. Read his book "Starvation Heights" and then you understand the connection. Highly recommend. And no, not a fasting plan to follow, duh.
